Whistling up my Sleeve

Calling Sister Midnight

I was paired with mwic. I used a selection of his pells and one of his musical samples.

I took the pellas and slowed them down and reduced the pitch just a bit so the words could be understood. I selected phrases that I thought had resonance for me from the pells. As a background mesh I selected one burst of phrases and reversed the audio.

As a nod to the Firefly context, I wasn’t happy with the audio when I searched for “firefly,” and prosaic “zap” sounds just wouldn’t do, so I decided to grab a freesound.org cricket sample and slow that down, too.

At this point, I decided that mwic’s sample called “scales” sounded like an intro, and I thought it would be interesting to put the song into the interior of a car, like it’s someone who has paused on the way to work in a thunderstorm.

By this time I fully committed to the cinematic aspect of the remix so I had to find someone’s tuneless whistle to round out the samples.

Plus, from freesound.org
