A variation on a familiar theme balanced on Speck’s remarkable foundation comprised of numerous source that is already one of my favorite versions of this traditional song. After doing a bit of research (because I did not know all the words), I chose to sing excerpts from James Watson’s original poem which was later adapted by Robert Burns, eventually turing into the “Auld Lang Syne” many of us are familiar with. Despite some liberties taken with the melody, I did include a lyrical refrain from “Auld Lang Syne” because familiarity is comforting.
